WOULD I KNOW HIM IF I SAW HIM?

Word4Word Poets

@ Aroma's Cafe

Newport News,VA.

"My sheep har My voice ad I know them, and they follow Me."
John 10:27

My poem:Would I know Him If I Saw Him was shared at the Word4Word Open Mic this past Tuesday evening at Aromas Cafe in Newport News. I was inspired to write and share days before this event. Was it ever good theraphy-sitting amongst kindred spirits loving poetry, writing their stories, unashamedly sharing their voices and experiences! There's power in these prose! No negativity, just acceptance and partaking in an honestly exhilerating evening! What a great way to conclude a workday.

The inception of my poem occured on Sunday afternoon. It was really a crisp, wintery feeling day. There was no snow, but it was certainly cold. I stood in my kitchen, wearing my favorite warn sweater and just enjoyed gazing out the window. There was nothing particularly interesting at that moment. But then I noticed a fire engine red furry ball moving, or so it appeared. As I looked closer, I realized it was a Cardinal playing in a pile of leaves. What a wonderful sight. This was a first for me, witnessing this.

Yes,this was truy a Kodak Moment! My camera wasn't in arms reach, when I returned ready to snap pictures, my cardinal had flown away. But what was truly surprising happended moments later when. I opened my dining room curtains and there on a Holly Tree branch was a Blue Jay perched and peering back at me. The bird knew I wanted to snap his picture and proceeded to give me an acrobatic arial show. No sucess with snapping his antics but I recognized this as a splendid moment. Then the Holy Spirit impressed upon my heart that when we see the divine, see God's imprint, His outstretched hand in our simplistic lives, if we're rushing we forfeit the opportunity to celebrate the Divine-celebrate God with us! Do we know Him? Do we understand that He's been in our presence? Can we recogize Him in the ordinary? I surely hope so, because witnessing Him is a gift from heaven!

Would I know Him If I Saw Him?

Standing on the cold linoleum kitchen floor,

Gazing out the back window,

Wrapped up in my heavy sweater,

No thoughts dominating another.

Just enjoying,

Enjoying my refudge,

Enjoying my sanctuary-home!

A sweet, easy Sunday afternoon,

My white, now gray warn sweater,

Hugs my weary body.

The atmosphere whispers,

“Rest, don’t you dare rush!”

“Move easy, don’t be hasty!”

Sipping warm chocolatey joy,

This is the long awaited elixir!

Delightfully perched,

The holly tree branches bend-sway,

Appearing so regal-so assured in your feathered coat of cobalt blue and steel gray,

You beckoned me to watch,

Witness your undisturbed perch.

Confident,

Pulling back my curtain, I applauded your presence.

Thank you, You are here!

And low and behold,

Another friend.

“Good Afternoon,Cardinal what brings you here?"

“Could this be the hallow ground that awaits us?”

And then it dawned on me,

Would I know Him if I saw him?

The Lover of My Soul, the Lifter of My Head!

Sun streaming,

Leaves twirling,

Crisp air moving.

Birds fluttering,

Stillness hovering?

Would I hear Him in my steps?

Feel Him in the atmosphere?

Hear Him in my breathing?

Reverence Him the quiet?

Witness Him in Nature?

Or rush past Him in haste?

Today, I know Him,

Acknowledge, notice the Divine,

Marvel at His presence.

You are truly here!

11th WEDDING ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION-A VIDEO QUILT

Richard and Linda Meadows @ Kittyhawk

This is surely what happens when we have time on our hands, we create what our heart longs to express. Sounds good right? Well, I'd like to think this is accurate. When I can, I do really love creating cards, scouting out fabric for pillows and curtains, writing devotionals, and trying to express myself artistically. This is essential for my wellbeing! If I could really paint and sing I'd be dangerous! But, I do realize some of my limitations. Today, I had some wonderful "me" time. I baked a mean eggplant parmesan, and finished my video quilt too. Christmas break has been very theraputic. God knows how good I feel. I've been trying to compile photos, select just the right music and discover scripture that expressed my sentitment for love. This evening I finally finished what I started several weeks ago. My 11th Wedding Anniversary Celebration video is now on my accomplished list! I am very pleased with the concluding frame, I think it speaks volumes about our spiritual journey.

It's no secret that I am enjoying creating youtube videos. I believe each of the videos celebrates the developmental milestones and the relationship hurdles that God beautifully helps us to navigate. We are never exempt from struggles, especially in our marriages. This sacred relationship can be extremely complex and difficult. Healing is always in order.

I pray you'll be further encouraged by my sharing through The Blessedness of Believing Devotionals, my Urban Views Weekly Inspirational Columns and the Faithauthorlindam Youtube Channel which conveys that daily we are evolving into the spiritually enlightened persons God desires us to be. We are a work in progress. When you have the opportunity to share your testimonies, don't hesitate! Your growth experiences can absolutely benefit us all.

Several weeks ago Ricky and I celebrated our 11th wedding anniversary, here's the sentiment of my video quilt:

God's love for all of us abides. We as believers in the Gospel are tremendously
grateful for scripture that conveys this truth. (For I know the plans I
have for you....Jer. 29:11
) Not only is this a musical tribute and
celebration of God's love for the sacred union of marriage, but; also a
shared appreciation that Richard and I have for each other. Join us as we
continue to journey together in a special loving relationship realizing that
with the Lord's direction, He can make all things new. Friends, we simply
need to trust and follow His lead!

HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS

" Do not merely listen to the word...Do what it says."
James 1:22

Are you looking forward to a shorter work week and half day on Wednesday? I sure am! Many of us will exit our offices in a frenzy at noon rushing to our favorite markets, department stores, super shopping centers and the like to prepare for our Thanksgiving Holiday! It’s a blessed day of football games (arm chair quarterbacks can experience a football over load), friends and family gathering and let’s not overlook the wonderful meals and abundance of mouth-watering desserts.

Scores of folks will be headed to far away destinations flying the friendly skies, and zooming down the highways in route to home. Loving arms will await their anticipated arrival.

But, the flip side is that there will be many that won’t have the financial means for a lavish meal. Broken hearted and abandoned souls will also be searching for shelter and a decent meal because home is neither nonexistent, nor a safe haven! Just possibly the news will be filtered to them regarding neighboring Soup Kitchens, community centers and/or churches that are distributing turkeys, providing hot meals, food baskets and/or warm winter clothing. The lines will be long and deep!

I believe through giving we can actively participate in the success of these endeavors. I’d like to think this is where we can make our holiday planning complete through our charitable gifts and donations.

  • My prayer is that you’ll commit to helping to provide the essential resources to improve the quality of life for others. It’s as simple as keeping your eyes and ears open for your community churches, synagogues, food banks, nonprofit and human service agencies that desire donations and/or volunteers.

  • Organizations with the intention of extending a helping hand can certainly benefit from your support. Let “ love and charity” be your motivating factor. They’ll be listed in your telephone directories or simply Google lists of human service agencies in your vicinities-you’ll be surprised at the list that will pop up!

  • United Way also awaits your call. They have a directory of agencies and knowledge about services which need volunteers, services, financial support, and gifts. Your community will be so appreciative of you. Organizations like Back to Basics Ministries in Delan, Florida and Buffalo, New York are all phone call away!

  • It’s time to celebrate the season with thankful and reflective hearts-our open hands and shared gifts make going home for the holiday so sweet!

Go on and spread more joy, more love and I’ll see you in the produce section at Kroger’s! Leave some fresh cranberries for me!

Happy Thanksgiving to all! God bless you!

GOOGLE YOUR NAME!

"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord,"plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." Jeremiah 29:11

Today friends that's just what I did, google my name! Try it you'll be amazed at what awaits you! Then I typed my name in the search box on YouTube to discover my reading of my poem Destiny by Linda Mose Meadows. This reading was at the Word4Word Anniversary celebration at Aroma's Cafe in Newport News. Generally I enjoy writing devtionals, but since attending the Word4Word Open Mics I thought I'd attempt writing poetry. We were challenged to write about "destiny". Look out Nikki, I am here!(Nikki Giovani is one of my favorite poets :-) I'm having a wonderful time actively participating in my life friends! I thank God for the wonderful opportunities and celebrations that God brings my way! I pray that you too are embracing your destinies!

DESTINY
by Linda Mose Meadows

Sharing, Hearing what the Divine has pushed her to believe,
Struggling, falling, crawling, leaning, swaying
letting one cane fall softly to the warn carpet
she reaches for her prosthesis

Before long, standing proudly and then comfortably moving toward her motorized chair
Destiny delights in newly acquainted freedom
No containing her for another neighbor's "dop-in" interrogation

"Energy to spare" is what rolls off wagging, jealous tongues
"She only got one good leg, while the others a stump!"
"She don't sit still!"
Destiny chuckles in anticipation of
Bumpy, cracked sidewalks,
unpaved roads, hard hats and Warning signs!
Secretly it's a delicious challenge, reborn joy, deep down joy
She whispers How great thou art!"

Destiny's mind races
bygone days of dancing halls, reaching for bursting peaches and walking carefree
Kicking up some dust!

She is assured:
"Greater is He that is within me!"
"For I know t
he plans I have for you!"
"You are not forsaken!"
"Those He foreknew He foreloved!"

Destiny witnesses the bewildering stares, gawking, wondering:
"Where she headed?"
Smiling, eyes twinkling
Nods her heart answers,
"I am headed somewhere, the Lord knows!"
"I'm alive, I'm alive!"
