Authors Celebrate with Nikkea Smithers and Readers With Attitude Book Club

“The greatest compliment that was ever paid me was
when one asked me what I thought,
and attended to my answer.”
—Henry David Thoreau (1817-1862); philosopher, writer, naturalist

I really appreciate Thoreau’s quote and immediately connected his words with the event held Saturday, August 8th at Precious Memories Bookstore (Richmond, VA). I believe Thoreau’s quote applies especially to those passionate writers and book lovers that assembled; ask them to reflect and share their writings and their answers are heard in literary works. Pen to paper and now fingers clicking on key boards are the tools that birth amazing literature.
This was a celebratory afternoon of high energy sage advice, networking and earnest accounts of an author’s vision. Her vision of a book club, bringing passionate readers together was good. But, then other endeavors evolved. These activities are continually ballooning-happenings like other writers being mentored to spur their literary dreams on!

Nikkea Smithers-A true visionary!

Who is this blessed author reaping the rewards and celebrating a 1st anniversary for her dedication to her calling?

Writers, book lovers exchanging ideas!

We agreed this was a wonderful day!

It’s Nikkea Smithers; who displays exuberance and a love for others. Her energy and creativity are nonstop (i.e. YouTube, Readers With Attitude Book Club, Essence Readers Best Sellers List, Author & Poetess). Her circle of friends extends to many. The honored authors for this occasion were: Ndea B. and Brain W. Smith.

Ndea B. Blogger and Author of:
Too Good To Be True

Brian W. Smith is the President of Hollygrove Publishing and
the bestselling author of several books to include: Nina's Got A Secret,
Mama's Lies - Daddy's Pain, and The S.W.A.P. Game.

Brain captured in a wonderful sharing moment!

We gathered with the mission of celebrating a momentous milestone for Readers with Attitudes Book Club. Friends take note of what Charles Stanley calls a Possibility Thinker! I thanked God for that realization. I was a witness and so pleased to be present, listening to Nikkea and the Readers With Attitude's many accomplishments which occurred in a year’s time. Oh what a difference a day, a week, a month and finally a year can make. Someone sings that?

It’s really true that all that happens in a span of time challenges and stretches us in ways we would have never fathomed, Nikkea attested to that. While Nikkea was realizing her publishing dreams, the book club was also experiencing literary success. God is at work in their life. What a blessing!
Happy Anniversary Nikkea and Readers With Attitude!

Laughing at parting with beloved books- we agreed booklovers have difficulty.

NOW FAITH!

Atmosphere 7 by Earnest Graham

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for,
the evidence of things not seen.
Hebrews 11:1

Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast him out? And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.
Matthew 17:19-20

As I enjoyed The Potter’s Touch : Put Your Faith Into Action by TD Jakes and then stumbled upon this website The High Calling of Our Daily Work, my spiritual toes were being mashed and I knew it! As I reflected and listened I truly understood that although I am a believer in Christ Jesus, on many occasions my “right now” faith is challenged and under construction especially when it comes to my attitude and work. Why is that so hard to swallow for many of us? We’re not totally there- believing God for everything! Our words and actions aren’t always working congruently. Doubt spills over into our “walk” and prayers when we’re truthful. It’s a relief to know that the more biblical truths we read , learn and apply; the clearer it becomes that God desires that we keep it moving in an upbeat fashion, never mind the intellect-it’s about faith! Are you demonstrating your faith!

God has once again gotten my full attention through this sermon and internet sites. He desires our full dedication, trust and heart. We must remain committed –no matter the predicament.

In my spirit, I’m moved to acknowledge that my faith is often compartmentalized into neat baskets with an assortment of attractive labels depending on the “seasons” that I find myself in. I have to confess this really shouldn’t be the case, but on a deeper level it’s a reality. I must earnestly examine what I am thinking-why and how it spills over in my behavior. Are you there also?

Today it’s clear that this methodology is self serving and will have us stuck, often repeating many life lessons we’ve should have learned. It’s God’s intention to move us higher, higher for his benefit of service, so that we effectively are teaching and reaching others! No it doesn’t have to be from the pulpit, synagogue or Sunday School Class. It can occur in the gym, lockers, board room, work cubicle, washroom, assembly lines, school corridors and while we’re waiting for public transportation. Yes, wherever we frequent and interact with other folks.

I feel it in my bones; yes in my spirit that I need to move further along on my spiritual journey and it’s not going to just happen. My momentum can be spurred with NOW FAITH!

Friends, I’m sure you’re getting what the Holy Spirit is conveying? We can’t withhold our faith, and stingily dole out a smattering here and there. We give our faith muscle when we absorb and apply the scripture and communicate with God frequently in prayer. Answers and visions are birthed and thus begins our faith walk. Let’s also remember to seek out spiritually enriching works that cause us to examine ourselves. God is speaking, do you hear him? We’ve got a greater work ahead of us! Trust and “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. Hebrews 11:1

Encyclopedia

faith
inner attitude, conviction, or trust relating man to a supreme God or ultimate salvation. In religious traditions stressing divine grace, it is the inner certainty or attitude of love granted by God himself. In Christian theology, faith is the divinely inspired human response to God's historical revelation through Jesus Christ, consequently, is of crucial significance.

GREAT FAITH, TREMENDOUS OUTCOMES!

permission granted by Renita Shadwick to use photo-
But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard,
neither have entered into the heart of man,
the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.
1 Cr 2:9

This wonderful photo taken by our friend, Stephanie captures the essence of faith! Immediately what comes to my mind is:
GREAT FAITH, TREMENDOUS OUTCOMES!
Not only during biblical times, but today it's evident that our faith in God garners unimaginable outcomes! Spiritual growth, material needs, restoration, deliverance, prosperity, renewed creativity, revival and untold blessings are in store for us, no matter what station of life we find ourselves in! I encourage you to place no limitations on God's abilities -don't tie His hands with limitied thinking. Instead, conceive in your mind, believe in your heart and anticipate the good that will come forth! See it! In a matter of time your heart's desire will be realized! Our lovig God will allow it to unfold! The Holy Scripture: 1 Corinthians 2:9 assures us of that!
Yes, it's time to give birth a new reality!

So my friends, confidently go on and do as this sweet little bowler did, knock the pins of life down and celebrate your strike!
Yes, celebrate and be thankful for God’s awesome presence in your life!
"Hey _____ (fill in your name) and Neta, your team is up! " "It's your turn to bowl!"
We trust as we love, and where we love.
If we love Christ much, surely we shall trust Him much
Thomas Benton Brooks

No good thing will be withheld from them that walk uprightly.
O Lord of hosts, blessed is the man that trusteth in thee

BE OPTIMISTIC!

Awesome Artwork by Mr. Everna Taylor, Artist/“pictorial story teller”

“Optimism is the faith that leads to achievement.
Nothing can be done without hope and confidence.”
—Helen Keller (1880-1968); author, lecturer, activist

Thanks Sounds of Blackness and Helen Keller, you’ve once again opened the eyes of my heart regarding having an optimistic spirit. It’s a “can do” spirit, it’s embracing the unseen, having the faith, the will, the tenacity to accomplish what’s been planted in your heart to do! I’ve just referenced Encarta and here’s the definition:

Optimism
op·ti·mism [ óptə mìzzəm ]

1. tendency to expect best: the tendency to believe, expect, or hope that things will turn out well
2. confidence: the attitude of somebody who feels positive or confident
3. philosophy doctrine that our world is best: a philosophical doctrine, first proposed by Leibnitz, that ours is the best of all possible worlds
4. philosophy belief in power of good: the belief that things are continually getting better and that good will ultimately triumph over evil

I love it, love it, because that’s who I'm daily striving to be in the midst of my daily living, an optimist! There's a mandate God has placed over each of us. Good things in our lives will come to fruition. Friends, I really like acknowledging that evident spirit in others- it's the twinkle in their eyes, the glide in their steps, the upright posture that just can't be ignored! Is that you I see paving the way? If you said , "No not really." Go on look in the mirror, take a bow, blow a kiss at the wonderful creation -this divine creature staring back at you! Yes, surely there's that conquering, overcoming spirit deep within?

Last week I met some very unique folks ( i.e. Lauren, Audrey, Everna and John), which I contend exhibit a bright outlook, that optimistic persona and joy for life. This exuberance spills over into their work.

These remarkable people are visionaries on a mission to live out their passions. And, I might add they are very hopeful about their endeavors-I really appreciate that quality! They are a recent business owner, an artists whose setting his own standards, young musicians which love their craft, a recent gifted college grad and an phenomenal songstress! They are right around the corner, literally! Their shops/studios/and restaurant are located in the Tidewater Community (downtown Phoebus, Virginia).
Possibly you’ll stop by their studio, treat yourself to an evening of jazz, book your next meeting or grab a bite to eat and savor the realization that as an optimist we live by faith, not by sight! Entreat yourself to a new experience, venture out, reach forward and trust that God’s good is also on your horizon.
It's a blessed time to be OPTIMISTIC! BELIEVE AND APPRECIATE THAT GOD IS ACTIVE AND ALIVE!

DIVINE SAFETY: THE LORD WATCHES OVER US!

Photography by: Linda Mose Meadows
Fun Day at Virginia Beach 7/2009

So we praise God for the wonderful kindness he has poured out on us
because we belong to his dearly loved Son.
Ephesians 1:6

I will sing of the Lord’s great love forever; with my mouth I will make your faithfulness known through all generations.
Psalm 89:1

The Lord says, “I have engraved you on the palms of my hands; your walls are ever before me.”
Isaiah 49:16

I am pleased to share that this is my photography. This picture was snapped at Virginia Beach this past weekend. While Ricky was assembling and then flying his Father’s Day kite, I was enjoying snapping pictures. I enjoy the many features of my new camera, and really do appreciate the revealed messages God sends my way when I am observing our daily activities. This just wasn’t an ordinary day at the beach is what I am confident the Holy Spirit is conveying.

Take a close look at the picture, what is it you see? Yes, it’s surely a fun day at the beach? But, not only do I see a little guy enjoying the water and the thrill of trying to jump over the rushing waves, but it’s apparent that a crashing stream of water is headed towards him-much too big for his little legs to handle. The little fella is really having a ball and probably can’t comprehend the possible danger. He’s too immature to understand the consequences of being in an ocean without his safety gear. But the little guy can be assured that a safety net is at arm’s length!

Love is standing by! I am not sure if it’s his “PaPa”, Papa or Grand Pop (endearing term for my Grandfather Ellsworth) or if it’s his uncle or his father! But whoever it is, it’s a father figure standing by on alert! This adult is eagerly watching and ready to intervene with a helping hand when necessary. I thought about our Heavenly Father who is watching over us continually. And, yes when we especially are in harm’s way, or in a fog; too preoccupied with the world matters to know any better. Remember being too caught –up in the moment? I do, been there and done that! Aren’t you glad that God has your back? We can trust that we are His own!

"Thank you, Jesus!" This is what my spirit is proclaiming! Your redemptive power and salvation belong to us as believers.
My friends, embrace that God is ever ready-He’s prepared to rescue and protect when need be. We are like all the children playing, twirling and jumping and surfing in the crashing waters, unaware that this world is a turbulent playground, but assured we are alright! Just know in your heart and soul God’s reaching out to you; why not allow His protection to keep you?
