WE ARE CHRISTMAS!

It's time to celebrate the Christ child's birth, and it's also a season for reflection and joy. In my estimation, it's really a time to give spiritual birth to new possibilities, new endeavors and new insights. It's time to unearth dreams and embrace realities yet to be seen. I believe we endeavor to capture the essence of the Christmas Spirit, Christ in our decorations, traditions, celebrations and rituals.


What would a holiday be without music to uplift and enlighten us? Music can take us there, there to a place when our minds conceive what our hearts wish to convey. We love all that Christmas represents: goodwill and God's love for us! It's a time to celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, gather with our cherished loved ones, exchange presents and commemorate the greatest gift that God has given us!

HOPE, PREPARE, JOY, LOVE-IT'S THE SEASON OF ADVENT!






“Behold, the virgin shall become pregnant and give birth to a Son, and they shall call His name Emmanuel--which, when translated, means, God with us” (Matthew 1:23, AMP).


This beautiful banner hangs in the narthex of Christ Church Cathedral in Nassau, New Providence, The Bahamas! Not only was the church impressive, but the banner expressed perfectly the sentiment of this joyous season of ADVENT.


Lord, you bring light into our darkness.


My spirit says, "Yes!" "Thank you Lord for this wonderful Christmas Season!"


We express HOPE for the coming of our King, Jesus Christ!


We PREPARE with anticipation of being a part of a royal priesthood which saves us from a dismal and dreadful existence.


We understand that we have a safety net that cradles us from destruction and sin.


We experience and embrace a new JOY, a real and deep down JOY because our righteousness is made perfect in Christ.


And finally we can walk in and realize a life changing LOVE the empowers us to rejoice in the knowledge that God is with us!

REFOCUSING WITH A HEART OF THANKSGIVING!



Our Thanksgiving season is upon us and I didn't want to miss sharing what I contend is an opportunity to express in this moment that it's time to get in in gear. Step away from life's difficulties for a moment and get in gear with a new mindset to refocus our priorities and give God thanks for all He's done. It's time to get moving! So friends this is a repost, but I know that I know that it's time to think about the goodness of the Lord as we shift onward and upward, refocusing on the things that matter most trusting that God has a timely message just for you. Rejoice and enjoy my friends...

I had my eyes on him and I was so glad I did! I was the observant co-pilot, the “passenger side” driver. By the way friends I designated myself to be on the lookout for those anxious holiday drivers. You've seen them moving too fast and not paying attention! Ricky was behind the steering wheel. When he mashed the brakes, my foot mirrored his actions. We were laughing and chatting as we traveled in Alexandria, VA. It was obvious that the driver in front of us was distracted. How did I know he was distracted? His swerving was a great indicator that something was amiss! With insistance I said, “Honey watch out for that guy! Let’s stay far away from him!”


As we moved into the next lane, the erratic driver attempted to switch lanes and move in our space. Our horn startled him, I then witnessed this driver holding his cell phone close to his ear. He was talking nonstop, looking quite comfortable behind his steering wheel. It apeared as though he was very involved in a conversation that occupied his entire attention. I believe God was demonstrating something for us.

Just possibly this message is confirmation that the Holy Spirit desires that we refocus today.


As we sat in the left turning lane awaiting the green traffic signal then proceeding, we heard a terrible sound that two cars make when there’s been a collision. I was relieved that our vehicle hadn’t felt the physical impact. But I knew someone had been very shaken up! The traffic light changed from red to green and as we proceeded through the intersection I looked over my shoulder and recognized that the guy on the cell phone was involved. Apparently he rear ended the SUV in front of him. I surmised that the driver in the vehicle in front of him hadn't moved because the traffic light hadn't changed yet. His front hood appeared to look like a crumpled aluminum "pop" can. Surely he was dazed, his negligent driving skills had caused great distress.



My heart sank for the innocent party involved in this accident. It's evident that the perpetrator of the accident paid no attention to the obvious stationary car. The guy on the cell phone was too caught up in his conversation-his world! He should have let it go! Let the phone go until he arrived at his destination.




There are some things we can’t do simultaneously! Texting and talking while driving are at the top of my list. As this year wraps up it’s important to acknowledge what we aren’t able to do effectively handle and act according. It’s a matter of refocusing, refocusing in order to pay careful attention to the important matters, especially those we are currently involved in. Lord knows it makes for a better day! It's clear we don't operate in a vacuum. I'm sure you agree that our actions do effect others!


Several thoughts regading REFOCUSING come to mind:



What impressions are we leaving behind?



Those we come into contact with should be glad we were in their presence, are they?




Reflect abd recall on what happens when we are moving hastily? In retrospect were the outcomes worth it?




Peacefully moving forward, is that a foreign concept?
Have you considered it?



Are you enjoying the ride-your life, the journey you are currently experiencing? What happens when our destination is no longer the primary goal?



Take heart, we've all experienced unexpected hardships. What was the lesson?



What happens when we get stuck in the past and drag our feet in moving forward?



Do you know "atmosphere changers" that stir up hurt and confusion? Could they have possibly handled things in a better way?




How important is it to pay attention to our surroundngs, our loved ones and the things in life that matter most?







Friends as we reflect on those questions, let's be encouraged in our spirits to refocus our energies and time to first seek divine guidance; continually praying for God's will over us and what concerns His will for our lives! Yes, I'd like to believe that God is moving in our hearts to accomplish wonderful things, if we just refocus!

THINK WHATEVER YOU WISH!









Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

Philippians 4:8




My parting words to my friend, Chappelle were “Keep your head up master sculptor! I love you!” The words master sculptor must have resonated in Chappelle’s spirit-I could feel the beams of his smile radiate through the cell phone. Surely this remark must have touched my friends’ heart, I meant what I said.



That morning’s mission was to walk and purchase some additional hand soap. My dear friend phoned while I was perusing the isles of Dollar General for liquid soaps only (that’s what I told myself), but curiosity pulled me towards the house wares and whatever else caught my eye. When the cell phone rang I was glad that in this instance I remembered my one purchase pledge and answered the call. It was spontaneous, as soon as we heard each others voice joyous laughter ensued. We were having such a great time conversing I was oblivious to the other meandering customers. Their stares were my barometer for toning the laughter way down. I realized that I was having too much fun and speaking much too loudly for public surroundings, but I couldn’t resist. We began to talk and chuckle about many things. Laughter really erupted when he shared that his house seemed to be in worse shape after a certain cleaning crew arrived. Their house cleaning escapades were futile and down right comical! As the saying goes, “Busted!” Chappelle knew their antics and hated reporting them, but oh well they were wrong for guising laziness as productivity. They tried to convince Chappelle otherwise. We laughed about these charades and concurred that his not having sight didn’t negate his intuitive nature and skills for divulging the truth.




But I suspect that the real objective of this conversation was to remind my friend that he is an accomplished artisan and more importantly that he is fearfully and wonderfully made. These revelatory words needed to fall on my own ears and transform my thinking. The Holy Spirit obviously wanted us to connect. It was a refreshing reminder about how the Lord has fashioned us. Chatting on the cell phone-just enjoying the movement of walking and noticing the Christmas merchandise displayed much too soon, Chappelle said to me that this was a day for strolling and not falling for any foolishness. He hit the nail on the head. In my spirit I wanted to take my time and not be anxious and that’s just what I intended on doing-strolling outdoors first, through the shopping center complex, then down the store isles, and back home from my morning walk.


As I walked down the main thoroughfare it was also my intention to pay attention to my surroundings, to be appreciative of the moment and not hastily move. So initially I ventured up the street noticing what I believed was the frantic motorist’s intent on driving over top the other. It was comical, but sad how these hurried motorists deliberately were tailgating, almost rear ending and colliding. Continuing my walk I observed my neighbor’s overgrown and manicured landscapes with varying shades of green, and marveled at the variety of snaking flower vines that crept up the trees and hung heavily with the tree branches. There was no shortage of lush plant life. The scenery truly was beautiful! How I wished I had had my camera.


The sun shown brightly but didn’t scorch me and for that I was extremely pleased. It felt good to be free. It was indeed a nature day spa experience. It was rejuvenating, my soul’s muscles were flexing! I was able to breathe, stroll and witness nature’s glory! Oh how sweet it was my friends to be given the opportunity to applaud my surroundings and not be rude, rushed, mentally immobile, burdened down, pulled and consumed with worries!


I realize that now it’s our choice on how we choose to seize our moments, but it ain’t easy. Yes, I meant ain’t! Feeling encouraged? I suspect there’s a heightened realization and we are more confident-hopeful, because our thinking and personal direction aren’t isolated regarding our capabilities. The more I’ve been able to actively carve out time to read God’s word, pray, focus and devote myself to staying connected to the tree of life- partaking in devotional enrichment, the slower my exhausting pace is and the more I appreciate my connection to our loving Savior Jesus Christ. I trust that you’ve found this to be accurate also?


As Chappelle fittingly stated, “Linda, it’s a day for strolling!”


Had Chappelle and I continued our conversation I would have enthusiastically encouraged him to stroll on to the library or venture on to his favorite bookstore and acquire this book on tape or in Braille: The Three Battlegrounds (An In-depth view of the three arenas of spiritual warfare, the mind, the church and heavenly places) by Francis Frangipane. I know, that I know that it was no coincidence that I’d rediscover a book that seemed to float from my inspirational shelf to my kitchen table and finally land on my “good intention” reading pile-grabbing my attention. This book has broadened my understanding of strongholds. Just like Chappelle’s former house cleaners the enemy intends to dupe us regarding God’s intended plans for all that concerns us. But thank goodness that darkness can’t prevail! It’s clearer to me now that our clouded thinking, the roadblocks, mixed messages that intentionally halt and hurt are dangerous strongholds. But there is good news my friends, victory is attainable! Often the positive direction we long for can be found within arm’s reach.


The power lies within us to seek out the truth and gain clarity about spiritual warfare maneuvers. Remember the spiritual battle we face will cause us to stumble and not stroll.
The demonic design is an arrangement to confound, distract and confuse us with contaminated thinking that diminishes our worth! But the truth about our royalty lies in God’s word. It starts with consulting the Holy Scripture and embracing the Lord’s instructions. Our shelves may also contain many spirit-led words that may help us gain new perspectives for more rewarding lives. Check out what’s in your midst. We can fight the good fight of faith and change our minds and hearts!


Think on the goodness of Jesus!

The Holy Spirit has charged us with fully embracing God’s promises for a rewarding life. Let’s begin to boldly and honestly examine our thinking and ask God to reveal what our strongholds are (i.e. envy, bitterness, depression, anger, procrastination, __________ fill in the blank, etc.) which hinder God’s perfect plan for us.


Be assured that the love of God will turn the tide for abundant living with unsuspecting extraordinary outcomes. Oh I am so grateful for God’s love and the depth of it that keeps us buoyant as we travel this earthly and spiritual plain.

IT'S TIME TO DO SOMETHING NEW!





“He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust; his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.” Psalm 91:4






I realize that it's really no accident that often I catch television programming at the right time. A world series winning game, the NBA finals, and/or a PBS series may be airing and is so riveting that it allows me stretch my outlook or provide me a brand new perspective on world events. Not to mention some super duper sports events is occuring that I would have hated to miss! So I knew it was surely providential that I witness the crowning of Miss Angola as Miss Universe and then later on check out America’s Got Talent on the internet and learn more about the winner and other contestants. You wonder the correlation? Well, I believe it has to do with celebrating the underdog or my inkling towards appreciating another one of life's lesson that in this life expecting the unexpected is the norm (at least for me). Sidebar: dealing with the unexpected gracefully is my challenge. It may irritate loved ones watching television with you, but it pays to channel surf-treats await us!


You never know what’s being broadcasted that was intended to delight and lift your spirit. It’s like being a little kid, you really don’t want to miss out!
I am sorry to learn about the most recent controversy with Miss Angola-Miss Universe. But it was indeed a celebratory moment seeing the crowning.


Today, I choose to focus on another winner of the 2011 America’s Got Talent Contest. There was an elephant in the room; it was so big, so obvious that it sat on the heads of the judges, especially the one who openly revealed that he believed that when he saw the contestant it was going to be a “total train wreck”. Mind you this was the furthest thing from the truth, but it was his belief system. The America’s Got Talent Judges had no clue what was about to occur. One particular judge openly had to recount and gobble each negative verbal morsel regarding what he said and believed.



Contestant: Landau Eugene Murphy Jr.’s first taped audition was an eye opener and heart fixer regarding his passion and capabilities. God was in the details. His vocation and life style weren’t necessarily a hard luck story but one that was evidenced by humble beginnings for this 36 year old man. The Youtube video below contains all the ingredients about how folks can have it all wrong about your talent(s), skill set(s) and gift(s). Those authorized experts usually have a limited scope of knowledge about whom they are judging. Consequently the predictions are way off, they miss the mark and their forecasts are generally unfair. If we are not careful these pronouncements can color our thinking! But it’s a matter of whom we choose to believe. Thank God we do understand and are aware that our capabilities are innumerable.


A break, a chance-that’s what we yearn for! Mr. Murphy beautifully has shown us that exposure and a leap of faith will unlock an armored door to phenomenal possibilities! He is our proof in the pudding that the world likes to rubber stamp and pigeon hole those that fit a stereotypical template. But these narrow minded individuals really don’t have a clue. Landau Eugene Murphy Jr. had the audacity to enjoy singing Frank Sinatra and dared to showcase an outstanding performance of Sinatra’s signature songs. Mr. Murphy boldly elected to go against the grain of his contemporaries. He relinquished singing familiar pop culture lyrics with provocative dancers to win over the audience and judges. Oh my friends Landau confidently sang, took a great chance and soared with his musical rendition in the style of the master crooner Frank Sinatra. Frank Sinatra is not necessarily known, appreciated, nor admired by many young entertainers. But God!

When we are stepping out on faith there is no need to be fearful, God had given us love and a sound mind!

We are fearfully and wonderfully made, so when God gives us the courage to complete something, we shouldn’t hesitate. As Nike says, “Just do it!” The clock is ticking let's get moving!

So with those bold truths, the Holy Spirit gives us the muscle and stamina to handle the mundane things of life. It’s the humble, small things, the uneventful day to day grind that is required until our change occurs. And in our hearts if we hold fast and do not waver in faith, inevitably we’ll experience an awakening. No this awakening may not be a star stunned contract, but it won’t make us ashamed. We’ll see a shift, a divine and brilliant plan unfold.


The chief architect, Jehovah lays the landscape (with key personnel/advisors in place to assist us) and God gives us the desire to cultivate our gifts. We too realize that it’s urgent to get moving with deliberate action and in time, in due season our gifts will make room for us! Surely Landau knew in his heart what he deeply yearned for and I am confident that that must have been the spark needed to catapult him to an opportune destination towards his hearts desire. Before long he realized his dreams as winner of the 2011 America’s Got Talent. It took work and fortitude to get to this audition. I bet it was more than just purchasing a train ticket or hopping on the Greyhound or Mega Bus? It probably meant tremendous sacrifice. He detailed and washed cars for a living, so we know that his finances were meager.




Good news flash: it’s outdated history regarding Landau washing cars for his living. I feel it in my spirit that he must have glimpsed a sweet taste of glory divine as he scrubbed the hubcaps, pushed through soap suds and hosed down countless cars. So with that in mind, what remains in your view? What are you long for, expecting, anticipating? Landau’s won America’s Got Talent 2011. We can win also! It starts with a renewed outlook! Oh friends God wants us to know that our future is before us! Hold on! Hold on to hope!


My friends, this stellar crooner can look back and not wonder how he made it through. Let’s salute him, applaud his tenacity and Thank God that he’s a modern day example of a possibility thinker with great faith! Praise God, praise God from whom all blessings flow! Commissioned and Revived!


Do you remember these contemporary gospel groups: Men of Standard and Commissioned? I sure do love their ministries. I'm Standing In Your Will is the song that just seems to hang on in my spirit! Visit Youtube and have a personal praise fest! Rock and praise God with the gospel musical explosion of these balladeers. Several of them have ventured out and made solo careers for themselves. It's evident their sure foundation remains in Jesus Christ. Their lyrics still continue to encourage my heart!


Oh my, there were many early morning prayer and worship opportunities when I lived in Buffalo that I’d beat a path to Calvary Church now Elim and partake in a spiritual revival. This was before I reported to work at 8am! The revival was in the form of an early morning corporate devotional opportunity to engage in spirit filled prayer, praise and worship – invariably a song by Commissioned would be sung. And my friends it was all over but the shout!
You had to be there to experience it! Powerful! Yes, theses were powerful celebratory appointments with God!


This morning I am crisscrossing back down memory lane in my midmorning praise and worship thanks to Youtube, my holy scripture, a heartfelt prayer crafted with affirmations of scripture. And wouldn't you know it, some sweet memories of home would result. It's a warm 90 plus degrees outdoors now. No fret about warming up my car because of the frigid weather with icy and snowy roads to navigate. Yep, no beloved friends to squeeze into packed pews with, and no anointed psalmist to usher us into that inner sanctum. But, worship still occurs!


Thanks be to God, I am not alone as I sit in my kitchen reflecting and realizing that God dwells with me. There's revelation that I have the Holy Spirit. You too? This is a new level of praise and worship, quite intimate, it's a phenomenal gift. It's my opportune time to draw closer to Jesus. It’s some years later since Elim, and instead of congregating with others, I now find myself carving out me time daily with Jesus-reading my morning devotionals of The Blessedness of Believing, A Devotional Journey of Life's Lessons and God’s Promises by none other-me, Linda Mose Meadows (His Power At Work Within Us pg. 220) which celebrates our reliance on God and God’s divine power and love within us. I once again realize that in this new leg of my journey, that the Paraclete (Holy Spirit) abides, remains, revives, restores and renews my/our weary beings. Yes, we have a beautiful companion, a loving protector! We are not alone and can hold dear in our hearts those former days of biblical teachings and worship experiences which were designed to prepare us for these complex present days and moments ahead. Today’s readings are love notes that strengthen my soul. My spirit utters, "I'm going to make it! I'll survive this!" The Holy Spirit whispers through prayer and scripture that I am connected to the vine, my branches will not wither, droop and die in the heat of the day because of the divine commission and the blessed pronouncement that God’s presence is with me and you my friends!





You also can grab hold of this intimacy! Come on and be revived, tuck the scriptures in your heart! Dance in your prayer closets, your living rooms, close the doors to your office and breathe in this new numa, this restorative breath of life! Thank you Heavenly Father! Lord, we have a new level of love and appreciation for you! Thank you Jesus we are equipped stand ready for your arrival!

WORDS, USE WITH EXTREME CAUTION- IT'S SO IMPORTANT!

It’s no accident that my experiencing Bishop Vashti McKenzies’ Praycation set my day in motion. It had a tremendous domino effect. This soul satisfying spiritual retreat with participants from varying locations was compacted into approximately 40 minutes of uplifting prayer, scripture, exhortations and testimonies that provided excellent, yes restorative fuel for life's ongoing journey. But it truly was an elixir for the day. And it’s virtual to boot! It was by no means a passive experience, but a morning of giving and sharing! The many words spoken quenched my parched soul!


After receiving this spiritual fortification from Praycation, it was no happenstance that I'd be in a discussion with a dear friend on what it means to battle effectively; as folks would say, “Batlin hard!” in spiritual warfare. So there it was a day starting with the tools for acquiring spiritual muscle, followed by a discussion and application of taking that exercised muscle and punching the devil out instead of getting knocked out! But how? Hold on to that question friends. I believe the Holy Ghost will reveal the answer.


Let’s fast forward to Youtube. My dear sister friend urged me to check out Juanita Bynum and Dr. Cindy Trimm as I began deliberately speaking to my trials with authority using "kingdom language." I listened intently to the videos. It was clear that God had woven a theme throughout my aha moments for that day, and it all seemed to point in the direction of appreciating the significance of words spoken and the impact they have on us-past, present and future.


The word “impactful” not generally used, I feel is the most appropriate-from the very start of the day it was jammed packed with words reverencing God and my having divine authority to speak life into dying circumstances. We are encouraged to fashion our language with affirmations, abandoning a defeatist tone and a smoldering diatribe. Remember your mother saying, “Watch your mouth?” Well I was a mouthy youngster and sometimes my childish remarks crossed the line and warranted correction. It’s no mystery that well intentioned words shape and color our perplexed lives! It’s a fact that praising God one moment and spewing profanity or cursing another moment will potentially rock our worlds. One remark cancels out the other!


Our world is shaken to the core with words uttered in anguish, words spouted in thanksgiving, words expressed in conviction and yes, words pronounced in declaration!


Our presence is important, but our words fuel the course. We are atmosphere changers-it takes words! Yes, these words mark us. They permeate the atmosphere and set us up for eternity. Our children’s, children will know the impact. Words can empower us. Prayerfully we are now transforming our speaking and our thinking. Our thinking is aligned with the realization that God is the source and strength of our lives. These profound words can heal, but more importantly they usher in positive occurrences and improved realities are then manifested.


Ask Dennis Kimbro regarding his success and being the bestseller of : Live Your Dreams, Think and Grow Rich-he’ll tout that in his book: What Makes The Great, Great; one is that prayer is the greatest need. The words of prayer which aide in changing our thoughts to alter our condition! There it is!

Words, words, refreshing words! Speak and declare that "God you are my God! " Relish in the natural and spiritual benefits of God’s Holy Word. As you break the cycle of negativity, take to heart that God's word will not return to you void. The more scripture you study, the better inclined you'll be to embrace transformative language and living. Be encouraged and meditate on all the attributes of a loving Lord and Savior!


Dr. Cindy Trimm says folks repeat what they hear. Don’t you love the truth? Change your destiny by changing your language. I have been enthralled with this realization. She inquires and asks the poignant question, “What are you feeding on?” And if I were to piggy back on that thought, my question to you would be: “What dialogues do you entertain with yourself and others?


Friends, never mind the grammar, it's good gospel ain’t it? Dr. Trimm says, we can download success into our day! So if we get in the mindset that we can decree doom, guess what? It will unfold! Imagine cultivating dread, pandemonium and being assured that and expecting it will springboard and blossom! It’s in our conversations, thinking, and actions! But the flip side is we have the power to manifest positive outcomes, decree and build formidable lives with wonderfully great outcomes.


Thank you Holy Ghost I am grasping this now. And Lord knows I want to jump up and down, because emotions have been the ruler over much of my conversations. But, today I am praising God for deliverance! Don’t tell me that listening to sage, anointed advice and reading scripture won’t usher you to higher heights! So here it is friends, if I think better of myself and apply these truths, God will bring it to past! Transformation is vital for our life and generations to come. We must select our choices. What’s your preference? Living or dying? I entreat you to choose life, it’s on the tip of your tongues.


It made sense that Paula White and Cindy Trimm are encouraging us to tape record our conversations! Many of us think that’s ridiculous, but what I am sure Paula's revelation is really reinforcing us to stop and begin to listen to our own words. These words are spoken often with no regard for the impact that they’ll have on us, our situations and circumstances. So if the words have hindered us and entrapped us, we ought to desire a shift, not to give in to the demonic forces that entrap us!


Let’s begin to break the pattern of negativity!


Whatever I bound in heaven and earth is loosed and bound! I must take authority
halt victim thinking and fix my thoughts. As Dr. Trimm says, “Press your ears to the word of God.”




Come on and get hungry! Where's your appetite for God’s truths: that we are fearfully and wonderfully made, created for such a time as this! No every day is not going to be blissful, but there’s no need to sit crouched in the dark room, shades drawn, awaiting the fall! We aren’t abandoned, but instead blessed and exonerated by His loving kindness and grace. We’re not thrown away-God is faithful. He is our banner, our strong tower, our help, our deliverer!

We can dismantle the architectural design of the enemy! It starts with our speech!

Success At The Foul Line

Often when I read something regarding scripture and history, I realize how much I’ve yet to learn! Good thing I am generally eager and hungry to learn more! I love interesting facts and am especially appreciative of those folks that love spouting little known facts and entertain us with those by the way conversations. The moment that revelation hits, I envision my brain being like computer circuit board or better yet a tiny bud restored with the droplets of a new found, refreshing shower of rain! It’s time to contemplate new information, new thinking, brand spanking new information. I am sure that there’s a fascinating reaction occurring, growth and nourishment are partnering for new found sustenance. That’s what I imagine folks! And so when I read this commentary regarding Luke 6:38 my spirit was marveling in an Ah ha moment!



Barnes’ Notes on the Bible
Good measure - They shall give you good measure,
or “full” measure.
Pressed down - As figs or grapes might be, and thus many
more might be put into the measure.
Shaken together - To make it more
compact, and thus to give more.
Running over - So full that the measure
would overflow.
Shall men give - This is said to be the reward of “giving”
to the poor and needy; and the meaning is that the man who is liberal will find
others liberal to him in dealing with them, and when he is also in circumstances
of want. A man who is himself kind to the poor – who has that “character”
established – will find many who are ready to help “him” abundantly when he is
in want…
Into your bosom - That is, to you. The word “bosom” here has
reference to a custom among Oriental nations of making the bosom or front part
of their garments large, so that articles could be carried in them, answering

This scripture and the commentary are connecting beautifully with one of the kindest gestures I know and that is to share. So there we have it, in our bosoms, our pockets, purses we can give and receive. Give what? Carry what? Provide what you ask? Let me start by sharing an observation and asking you this question first? Can you imagine forking over 40k? Yes, no not 40 dollars or 40 cents! But, giving $40,000? In this day and time with economic hardship lounging in our family rooms, kicked back wearing our beloved overrun slippers! True we may not have that kind of money at our disposal but don’t let giving hinder that. Well many folks do it daily and don’t blink. It’s a known fact, that there are givers who enjoy doing so and are always encouraging others to jump on the band wagon. Collectively they galvanize their friends, create streams of giving, stroke checks or jump start foundations and off they go.Can you imagine in your best life having enough to share, no fanfare, just giving because it feels like the right thing to do? We are hard pressed on many days agonizing on how we’ll pay our electric bills and soaring cell phone bills. But whether we are clutching our purses or squeezing our hands tight change does happen. Just possibly not on our clocks. So if we embrace that philosophy we can give out of our need. What does the scripture encourage us to do:

“Give, and it will be given to you. They will pour into your lap a good measure–

pressed down, shaken together and running over. For by your standard of measure

it will be measured to you in return.”

Luke 6:38



You’ve heard spread the wealth and pass the potatoes. Ok I am being silly, but I believe that the importance of giving forward initiates that act. It becomes natural and like a domino effect.


Thank you Lord for one of the finest examples I recently learned of by way of the Compton Basketball star Allen Geui who dazzled his team mates, onlookers and others during a foul shooting contest that was designed to spark community support and provide college scholarships.


The contest’s creator’s intention was created to simply shine a positive light on Compton’s High School and dispel the negativity felt regarding Compton’s youth and culture! Google his name and this link: http://highschool.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1237085 to learn about his star basketball shot! This young man will cause you to appreciate all the more the concept of carrying plenty in your bosom and not withholding generosity to impact the lives of others for the good! So here we have it Allen Geui at the foul line, about to make a historic shot and change the complexion and dimension of true grit and character! He’s my designated poster person for CHARACTER!


Swish and there it is, no ordinary shot, no average basketball player! The successful basket is electrifying- the crowd is cheering, the arena is erupting, the media is buzzing, camera’s flashing, college recruiter’s high fiving and the relatives beaming and friends shouting with pride! Let’s not omit the oversized reward check earmarked for the winner! It was well earned and Allen Geui’s for the taking. ( No haters need apply!) But the moment doesn’t conclude there! It wasn’t just about singing all the way to the bank. Instead of coveting this moment- the realization must have been birthed in his spirit to embrace another possibility! Out of his boom moment, his resolve, flowed a wealth of opportunities to carve out a new path and stamp his signature on a new letterhead.

In a single moment and with a remarkable decision, the flood gates erupted and I am convinced heaven was applauding! I am not sure who ignited the compassion and heart for giving in Allen Geui; I am not sure if he fully contemplated the significance of his amazing generosity. But the evidence of it was clear with his insight to give, give what many of his classmates needed which was more than lip service about partnerships and team camaraderie; it was cash to attend their selected colleges!

Months after Geui collected his college scholarship winnings of $40,000, he wowed the contestants, several of which where his team mates by providing them with his total winnings.


Who does that! Oh my Lord doesn’t that just send chills down your spine? He realized that his teammates desired to also attend college and many of them hadn’t received scholarships and were in need of the funds. No dollars, no college! He changed that! Talking about giving it forward - and men shall give unto your bosom. This occurrence is indeed awe inspiring, it smacks of the biblical era of pouring into the pouch, the bosom of another and the recipient receiving the king’s reward, an overflow of the bounty! What an outstanding gift, both tangible and intangible. Allen’s giving will have a ripple effect for generations of Compton students to come! And I pray the world!

This young man has already received a college scholarship and I would not be surprised if this is just the tip of the iceberg for him. As the sower he’ll continue to reap a reward of magnitude proportions. His giving swells and spills over and touches countless others too many to know and too important to fathom. Just the act of standing at the foul line and including other contestants shouts winner! Let’s rally around this team captain! So the question remains, give what you ask? I say very easily- give your time, talent and certainly a few dollars to the almighty cause wouldn’t hurt! Just ask Allen he’s a young man with character and lots of ingenuity!

Prayer

Thank you Lord for the game changers in our lives that see beyond themselves reach into their pouches and encourage us by their acts of giving to strive, live, to dream and to never ever abandon hope for our best days are in front of us! Often they give what we have no means of. Thank you Lord that they felt the tug on their hearts, provided the essential resources for our good! Remind us Lord to follow your lead and will, when it’s our turn to step forward to the foul line and make life changing baskets. We endeavor to begin living with greater hearts, integrity and intentions of giving forward. Thank you Lord for your marvelous love and your word that reminds us that: However, as it is written: “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him” – 1 Corinthians 2:9

We give all honor and glory to you and in your son Christ Jesus’ Name! Amen!

GOOD ADVICE TO LIVE BY!

After reading today’s Values.Com quote by William Arthur Ward, I just smiled and cherished this light bulb moment! Mr. Ward obviously had lived and learned a few things. His wisdom began with an action, some involvement-doing. What tremendous counsel; reminding us extend beyond ourselves, our circumstances! Participating, not waiting to be selected. Helping: volunteering first. Actively believing: practicing our faith. Demonstrating kindness: even when faced with dilemma of whether things are mutual agreeable or fair. Forgetting the wrongs done to us: wow that’s a tough one for me! Working: stepping into possibilities of making dreams realities. I am sure you agree that life holds many opportunities to observe listen and learn by doing?



It’s a cathartic realization that the more active we participate in life the better the results are. Life will show us some things! Yes, good and bad. My friend Cassandra once asked me: was I being a stump sitter? I didn’t realize that I was passively waiting, instead of actively progressing. That was a punch and a dose of harsh medicine, it was needed. But I’m glad to report I’ve got my wings of faith flapping. Those words jolted me! It got me active!



There are slogans like “Play to Win” and “You Have to be in it to Win It! usually these sayings are referencing the lottery. But we know the odds are often a million to one for collecting those desired mega bucks. But the truth is someone does win the cash; it just might not be us. In slick magazine and billboard ads we immediately recognize: “Just Do It!” This is an excellent opportunity for me to encourage you and say, “Stay in the game of life and keep at it!”


Yes we might languish on the stump for a while, but that is not where our comfort should lie. I’d like to believe that each day is a winning ticket, an opportunity to hold on to our faith with a life-force grip of “doing”. A grip that is strengthened with a determination to realize gifts and impact the world with dogged persistence.


Each new day is another opportunity to take God at His word packed with His promises and our life’s lessons. Let’s not forget to relish the aha moments. Yes, friends it just that clear, take heart. In big caps, in enunciated syllables if you will! In an exaggerated dialect, speak it and register this: take heart! Meaning don’t worry, don’t fret, don’t be intimidated, don’t be afraid! As Bishop Brooner would say, “Don’t be afraid, afraid of false evidence appearing real.” My God it’s good to know that we can take comfort-own the security that God’s steering our lives, God’s vessel-us, my life, and your life! He cares for what concerns us. This was made so clear this morning as I sat myself at my desk and prepared for another work day. Reflection

Take heart in the evident promise of your salvation: that always and forever shall your soul be filled to overflowing with abundant and eternal life! Never shall you thirst. Never shall you dry up. Never shall your soul be parched. Rather take joy in this: unto everlasting shall your heart's thirst be quenched as rivers of God's living water pour down from heaven as you bask in the glory of God's own Son: Christ Jesus.

GOD HAS A PLAN FOR YOU! BLESSINGS TO OUR BELOVED MEN: A FATHER'S DAY TRIBUTE!

Happy Father’s Day to all of the brothers, uncles, stepfathers, adopted Big Daddies and super fathers. You are our beloved men both young and old-standing in the gap for us: your children, loved ones and many others that depend and count on you!


Priceless is what you are! We cherish your loving guidance, coaching, strong silence, active participation, unique discipline, direction, no nonsense demeanor, humor, finances and constant prayers. Because God has fashioned you, we are confidently assured! There’s assurance that you’ll share your heart and be there to celebrate our accomplishments.


Thank you for providing the needed support and love on those countless occasions…Yes, we know without a doubt that you like our Heavenly Father are a present help! Take a look in the mirror and confidently realize that you are an awesome help especially when we are experiencing hardships, moments of being left out in the rain, waiting in the corridors confused, perplexed, and seemingly abandoned.

Like the countless nights you patiently sat between the door and the phone anticipating our return home; greeting us with a firm scolding.

When you gave your last few dollars, knowing full well a paycheck was weeks away;

When you told us so and reminded us that you weren’t surprised with the outcome;

When you planted that kissed on our foreheads, hugged our shoulders and encouraged us to be calm and not utter a word;

When we made that dreaded phone call and got a surprising conversation that changed our outlook and lifted our spirits;

When you sat on the floor with the other parents as we served you Peanut Stew and recited our poems;

When we felt embarrassed by your school visit, but later appreciated how you demonstrated your concern by your active involvement.

Oh the gratitude list grows moment by moment. You are doing an exemplary job! Thank you for being a steady stream, an anchor and our strength! We praise God for your wonderful presence. May you continue to follow the leading of the Holy Spirit! Remember God has a plan for you, the Holy Scripture says so!
